Mrs. Mary HARRIS died at her home in New Ross March 16 (18?)  aged 90 years 9 months and 18 days. She was born in Chihowee,  Blount County, Tenn June 6, 1806 married to Samuel S. HARRIS Sept  26, 1827 and moved to Preble CO Ohio then to Indiana in 1887 (?).  She was the mother of 8 children three sons and five daughters, 7  of whom still survive her. Tommie, her son was called away from  her Feb 14 from which she never recovered. She had 19  grandchildren and five greats. Her husband died 30 years ago  leaving her the care of 8 children, which by hard striving she  managed to keep together until they grew to man and womanhood.  She united with the United Brethren Church in 1846 and lived a  devoted Christian until the day of her death. She was buried on  Sunday at Union Cemetery. Six of her grandsons acted as pall  bearers. Col. Robert RHEA father of Mrs. Harris whose death is  mentioned above died at his home in Chilhowie Blount County Tenn  on Friday Feb 15, 1850 between the hours of 8 and 4 in the  evening and in the 93rd year of his age. He was an old soldier  and patriot who had served his country in the war of the  Revolution and participated in several hard fought battles of  that memorable epoch. He also served his country in the last war  with Great Brittain also in the wars with the Creek &  Cherokee Indians fought in several hard contested Indian battles,  performed feats of personal bravery and cunning and was renowned  for being the bet Indian fighter of his day. But the noble  hearted citizen and soldier is no more. His remains beneath the  sod of his own green mountains. - typed by kbz
